In conclusion, Delaware County has a stable local and regional economy exhibited by relatively high-income levels (the median household income was $50,092) but a slightly higher unemployment rate (4.3%) than the state average (4.2%).  Many communities surrounding Delaware County have experienced marked population and employment growth over the past decade due to their proximity to the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area market.
